DESCRIPTION:New to Governance 
 The course is a vital part of the inductio
 n of new school governors\, the course covers the essential elements of th
 e role of the governing board and of the governors that make up the board.
  The course acknowledges the need for all governors to be properly inducte
 d and developed to ensure they possess the knowledge and skills required t
 o perform their functions confidently and effectively.
 The course is des
 igned for not only new governors but governors who wish to refresh their k
 nowledge and skills are very welcome. The sessions are interactive and act
 ivities use real examples to illustrate challenges that governors face.
 
 The sessions will explore the key roles of the governing board as outlined
  in the current Governance Handbook\; particular emphasis is placed on the
  three core functions of school governance\;
 
 Ensuring clarity of visi
 on\, ethos and strategic direction
 Holding the Head Teacher to account f
 or the educational performance of the school and its pupils\, and the perf
 ormance management of staff
 Overseeing the financial performance of the 
 school and making sure its money is well spent
 
 The course will examin
 e how these core functions relate to the everyday functioning of the schoo
 l and its board of governors and the responsibilities of the board to the 
 school.
 Please note this course is in two parts. (2x2 hour sessions)
