Lego Therapy.... what is it and how does it work?

Lego Therapy is a social development programme for children with autism (developed by Dan LeGoff – 2004, Philadelphia, researched and recommended by Simon Baron Cohen & Gina Gomez). It is one of the very few approaches where research has proven significant improvements in Social Competence at the end of the intervention as well as at later follow up. It is a collaborative play therapy where participants take different roles to create a joint model and, although originally developed to support children and young people diagnosed with autism, it is relevant to many others requiring social skills development work.

This workshop aims to introduce delegates to the principals of Lego Therapy, explore why it particularly appeals to children and young people diagnosed with autism and discuss how it might be implemented within a setting. There will also be an opportunity to 'have a go!

Basic Autism Training - Moving on from the Triad

This course is aimed at anyone new to the field, as well as those with a basic understanding of autism who wish to deepen their knowledge in the light of current research.

The session will provide an in-depth introduction to autism, how children and young people with autism think differently (the cognitive styles) and will cover some basic strategies and ideas for supporting children with autism in education.

The course will take account of more recent research within the field to ensure delegates who already have a basic understanding, are up to date.

£25 if booked in conjunction with the Lego Therapy session
